Laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are minimally invasive surgeries. Indications for laparoscopy, as a rule, is the presence of cysts in the ovaries. Surgical hysteroscopy is performed in the diagnosis of small polyps and myomas located in the uterine cavity. The main feature of both procedures is the possibility of minimal trauma to the female genital organs.

Depending on the individual characteristics of the organism, the procedures may contribute to the restoration of the menstrual cycle or, conversely, to its violation. One of the main causes of cycle disturbances are the effects of anesthesia and the stress experienced by the patient before the operation. As a rule, in one or two months the cycle is restored. If there is a prolonged absence of menstruation after laparoscopy or hysteroscopy, additional conservative treatment is needed, aimed at stimulating ovulation.

The reasons for the lack of menarche

Failure or absence of menstruation may not only be associated with the operation. The regularity of the cycle depends on several indicators:

  • the age of the patient
  • immune system condition
  • hormones,
  • stress transferred before or after surgery
  • the professionalism of the surgeon who performed the surgery.

In most cases, menstrual periods after ovarian laparoscopy come on time. The natural cycle of the woman is not broken. Less frequent menstruation delay, or, conversely, the cycle begins earlier than the prescribed period. In this case, you need to contact a specialist. At this time, you also need to pay attention to the nature and abundance of secretions. In the absence of monthly or cycle failures, doctors recommend taking immunomodulatory drugs containing the full range of vitamins that are beneficial to the body.

Depending on the type of discharge, you can determine the nature of the recovery processes after surgery. So, too abundant discharge indicates the presence of bleeding in the body. In this case, you should immediately consult a doctor. The inflammatory process after the operation is expressed by secretions of a dark (brown) color with an unpleasant odor. Blood clots are also indicative of serious disruption to the genitals.

In some cases, after ovarian laparoscopy, menstruation may be absent for six months or more. To restore the menstrual cycle in this case, hormone preparations are prescribed.

When will the cycle recover?

With successful laparoscopy, the recovery period lasts up to three weeks.

That is why it is customary to prescribe the procedure on the 7th - 10th day of the menstrual cycle, so that before the next menstruation the body has time to recover. In addition, there are other options for the normal recovery process:

  • cycle shift
  • the appearance of bloody and mucous discharge immediately after surgery and their continuation for two to three weeks,
  • delay of menstruation for several weeks as a result of the action of anesthesia.

If, immediately after the operation, the woman began to discharge dark colors that have an unpleasant smell and are accompanied by severe pain in the lower abdomen, an infection may have appeared. In this case, a swab for analysis is required. After elimination of polycystic ovary by laparoscopy, menstruation occurs while taking hormonal preparations.

Please note that the first menstrual periods after laparoscopy are abundant. This is due to the duration of healing of internal tissues.

The effect of hysteroscopy on menstruation

Depending on the type of hysteroscopy, its various effects on the menstrual cycle are possible. If the purpose of this event is to study the tissues of the female genital organs, while the tissues and mucous membranes are not affected, the menstrual cycle will not be broken.

Simple surgical interventions related to the removal of polyps or other small neoplasms, although they lead to damage to the integrity of the tissues, do not have a special effect on the nature and timeliness of the menses.

Most often, a cycle failure occurs after termination of pregnancy (curettage of the embryo by hysteroscopy). In this case, hormonal failure occurs, for a full recovery of the body, including the normalization of menstruation, takes some time.

Surgical hysteroscopy causes damage to internal tissues. At the same time there is a high probability of infection of the body both during the operation and after it. Therefore, during postoperative recovery, it is necessary to comply with all medical prescriptions, observe personal hygiene. Be sure to consult a doctor should in violation of general health, the absence of menstruation or change their nature (the appearance of heavy bleeding or blood clots).

The nature of the discharge after surgery

An unequivocal answer, as the first menstruation after hysteroscopy, will not give any doctor. The nature of the discharge depends on the general condition of the female body, its reaction to surgery. It is important to pay attention to the following indicators:

  • profusion of menstruation,
  • the presence of an unpleasant smell
  • the presence of bloody clots
  • highlight color.

After surgery, menstruation may begin earlier than expected, or, conversely, linger. You also can not predict the abundance of secretions. Small bleeding, accompanied by clots, may indicate a slow recovery of the mucous membrane of the internal genital organs. Normal discharge is a sign of rapid postoperative recovery and the absence of an inflammatory process. Dark brown discharge indicates an inflammatory process. If the duration of the first cycle after hysteroscopy is slightly different from the normal one, this is not a pathology. If there is no monthly for two or more months, you need to consult a doctor.

Immediately after hysteroscopy with scraping, blood discharge may occur. This is normal if the blood is scarlet and excreted in a small amount. As a rule, after a few days everything passes. In addition, the discharge may be accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen. In the case when the pain is tolerable, you should not be afraid. In case of severe pains that increase with time or are accompanied by fever, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Despite the harmlessness of the procedures of laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, these activities are surgical interventions that result in the integrity of the tissues of the internal organs of the reproductive system. This increases the likelihood of the development of infectious processes in the body during the postoperative recovery period. Therefore, patients should not only follow all the recommendations of the attending physician, but also independently monitor their health.
